Annie Crummer grew up in West Auckland and cites one of her strongest musical inspirations as her Cook Islander father. She left education at the age of 15 to focus on her music and by just tender age of 16 she appeared on the Opportunity Knocks talent show, won, and released her first single.
Crummer has been part of groups and carved her own solo career which has taken her to international success and exposed her to opportunities in musical theatre. She has shared the stage with Michael Jackson and Sting and starred in several TV shows.
In 1993 she was awarded Best Female Artist at the New Zealand Music Awards and nominated for the same category at the ARIA Music Awards in Australia in 1996. In 2011, Crummer was awarded Senior Pacific Artist Award at the Creative New Zealand Arts Pasifika Awards and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Pacific Music Awards in the same year. In 2017 she was appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music.
